The search process
is in principle standard. But managers experienced
in using search say they rarely find it is conducted
with thoroughness and care.
The
starting point is understanding of the
client and his aims, his business and its values and
culture. Then, thorough research to identify candidates is complemented by knowledge
of where they may be found;
every company and its culture and business are different.
Existing data bases are used to provide a framework for
research, not as the expected source of candidates.
Throughout
the whole search process, close communication with the
client is essential and always rewarding.
The
process of talking with potential candidates, interviewing, and documenting candidates who are presented
is conducted with immense care.
